The Kerala water sports and sailing organization KWSO will organize a power boat certification and yacht training session at Sacred Heart college, Thevara and Bolghatty and Vallarpadam areas from December 22 to 31. The training course will be handled by professional trainers from Yachting Association of India.KWSO informed that the programme is organized with the intention to familiarise yachting to Kerala. While power boat certification can be obtained by people above the age of 18 years, those who are above nine can take part in yacht training.”The training sessions are expected to generate awareness on the possibilities of exploring water sports in the state. The backwaters of Kerala provide immense scope for such activities and the department of sports, education and
tourism can come together to build the infrastructure required for promoting water sports,” said Jolly Thomas, representative of KWSO.The organization is also interested in preparing the Kerala team that will participate in the category of laser radical class yacht in the 35th National Games.”Yachting has 33 medals in Olympics. The state government should set up the infrastructure facilities, select the right participants and give them proper training. The government should make use of the National Games as an opportunity to procure equipment necessary for yachting,” added Thomas.
