Mahanadi is the largest river of Odisha. Running through 10 different districts through the heart of Odisha, it provides a huge opportunity for water sports. One can start from the Hirakud dam to the mouth in Bay of Bengal, a stretch of 270 km running through some of the breath-taking and scenic beauty. However the best place is the Satakosia Gorge near Tikarpada. It’s never to miss water adventure sports in Odisha.
Every year National Adventure Foundation(NAF) conducts rafting expedition on Mahanadi from Sambalpur to Cuttack. Though there are not much facilities available for rafting, nor any infrastructure for any tourists, yet any one can raft on Mahanadi, if you have raft on your own. Alternatively, rafts can also be hired from few of the locations or aquatic center at Jagatpur, Cuttack.
The entire route of 270 km on Mahanadi has got an exciting flow & current of water. There are less chances that you will encounter any big rapids, yet the rafting will be a smooth sail. You will be experiencing the nature, wild life and various flora & fauna along the banks of Mahanadi.
