It is all systems go as the prestigious Monsoon Cup, one of Malaysia’s biggest sporting event, will set sail tomorrow at the Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa, Pulau Duyong, Kuala Terengganu featuring 12 world renown sailing teams.
The Monsoon Cup which is the final leg of the Alpari World Match Racing Tour Trophy arrives in Pulau Duyong after seven adrenalin-draining legs and will see the ISAF World Match Racing Tour 2012 champion crowned here.
The Monsoon Cup match racing sport differs from other sailing disciplines in that the boats race one-on-one in supplied racing yachts. The yachts supplied for the Monsoon Cup are Foundation 36 type racing yachts.
Monsoon Cup has not only catapulted sailing into the Malaysian mindset but is also the catalyst in promoting Terengganu, both as a tourist destination and in developing marine based business activities.
The economic opportunities in services and manufacturing sectors flourished as well, among them hotels, tourism, restaurants, boat-making, food supplies, textiles and souvenirs.
