A month-long advanced course on white water river rafting-cum-recce, organized by the tourism department in collaboration with the Arunachal Adventure Association and Indian Rafting Foundation, commenced at Seppa in East Kameng district on Thursday.
The Kameng River, which passes through Seppa town, was the venue for inaugurating the event. A group of local youths, selected by district tourism officials for the training, enthusiastically turned up for the event. They were previously given a month’s basic training on white water river rafting by the department last year.
The training programme was flagged off by ADC (Seppa) Tapir Pada who encouraged the youths to take part in more such activities as it will help them be self-employed in the future.
District tourism officer Taluk Sonam briefed the participants about the advanced training programme on rafting and its income-generation and revenue-earning potential, sources said here on Friday.
The chairman of Arunachal Adventure Association, Chukhu Mama, said the objective of the course was to create a human resource pool so that they can train other local youths in the future. Besides creating window for self employment, the event will promote adventure tourism in the state, Mama added.
The advanced training will go on for the next three days after which the trainees, along with a team of the Arunachal Adventure Association and Indian Rafting Foundation, will carry out recce-cum-white water river rafting from Marjingla under Chayangtajo circle of East Kameng to Bhalukpong in West Kameng district.
This is the first phase of the course and it will be followed by rafting-cum-recce from Daporijo to Gerkamukh and Menchuka to Pasighat, a source said.
